Floating benches at The Square on Columbia's Manhattanville Campus

About the Space:

The Square at Columbia’s Manhattanville campus is an informal, 40,000-square-foot outdoor space that is situated in between the two Columbia Business School Buildings, excluding Woodland Walk between West 130th and 131st Streets.

The Square is accessible to the public seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from November 1 through April 14, and from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. from April 15 through October 31.

University policies applicable to outdoor spaces apply to all activities in The Square.

  • Event Management is responsible for reserving The Square for events.

Reserving the Square for Events

The Square can be reserved for exhibits, performances, and events. All activities in the square must be set up in a designated area to permit pedestrian flow and limited active recreation for university affiliates and the community at large.

All requests for events at The Square must be submitted with at least 15 days’ notice. The Manhattanville Event Review Team will finalize approvals for all event requests.

Event requests for The Square should be submitted via the Event Management System, EMS.

To submit an event request:

  • Log into EMS with your UNI and password
  • Select ‘Outdoor Space’ Template
  • Select “The Square”
  • Complete all fields, including second and third date preferences

Community groups interested in using the space should contact the Office of Government and Community Affairs at [email protected].

Requesting Closure of The Square for Large Events

In special circumstances, The Square may be closed to the public to accommodate larger events, excluding holidays.

Closure requests will be prioritized for annual university milestone events. Please contact Emerald Currie at [email protected] for further details.
