REPORTS TO: Catering Operations Manager

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Guest Related Tasks

  • Greet guests according to standards
  • Explain menu/foods/drinks to guests
  • Take orders, serve beverage and snacks to guests
  • Must have a basic knowledge of food and wine service

Alcohol Proctoring

  • Enforce Federal Laws and University policies and procedures firmly and courteously
  • Ensure a safe and orderly environment
  • Oversee any event with alcohol with guests under the age of 21 or related circumstance
  • Manage alcohol logistics (wrist banding, guest lists, drink allowance, etc.) for events with alcohol
  • Attend required trainings

Table Set Up

  • Set tables following procedures
  • Set up work area and table (at station) with supplies
  • Clear tables and set up for new guest
  • Observe all department and Columbia University standards for the department

Storage Tasks

  • Stock up the shelves and counter area for the next service period
  • Ensure proper storage of all service items
  • Replenish all service items: paper items, general supplies, beverage and stewarding supplies
  • Report equipment shortage or problems
  • Supply ice as needed
  • Retrieve food from the kitchen
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace so that others can locate resources or products as needed
  • Collect dirty glasses, break down service area as needed
  • Retrieve and replenish linen, supplies and incidentals as needed and store as directed
  • Collect soiled linens and returns them to the linen room
  • Must be able to carry 10 meals on a banquet tray for plated events

QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a related area and/or a combination of experience & education that provides the skills required for this position
  • Great customer service

Other Physical Skills

  • Must be able to lift and carry in excess of 50 lbs and balance trays
  • Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time
