Lee C. Bollinger Forum Features Vibrant Selection of Local Vendors at Small Business Pop-Up Market

Throughout the spring and summer, Columbia University supported local and small businesses in an exclusive pop-up retail opportunity at the Bollinger Forum.

Beginning in April, the Bollinger Forum hosted a rotating pop-up market highlighting small businesses from across New York City. The initiative was designed for local vendors specializing in the sale of upcycled clothing, newly constructed sustainable apparel, and locally crafted goods.

Participating businesses had the opportunity to set up retail space in the Bollinger Forum for up to three weeks, with the goal of increasing their visibility and helping to drive traffic to their primary retail location. Participation was free, and vendors from the five boroughs of NYC and SEDI-owned businesses were eligible to apply.

The pop-up market featured a vibrant selection of local artisans, including:

  • Rouge Hoops, specializing in unique handmade earrings inspired by New York City.

  • Body Vanity, an Afro-Latina owned and operated bath and body brand, crafting plant-based products using only the finest ingredients inspired by nature.

  • SusanSK Jewelry, maker of handcrafted, original jewelry for those who choose fun, colorful, creative, joyful items over those that are mass produced.

  • Harlem Hoopz, maker of handcrafted, original bamboo hoop earrings.

  • LadyFerg, maker of unique, upcycled clothing.

  • Jillian Trumpet Creative, a Bronx-based fiber art business specializing in handcrafted batik goods and DIY batik painting kits.

In June, the Bollinger Forum hosted a June Makers Market featuring many returning vendors, as well as newcomers K’s European Jams and Kristin Doney Studio.

The pop-up market will continue into the new Academic year. Eligible small businesses can apply on a rolling basis.
